BLUE VERVAIN:   This attractive and distinct perennial heralds from Manitoba and Eastern forests. It does well in our plots - however it prefers rich soil and fairly damp conditions. More difficult to start from seed than most of the perennials we sell, the seeds need to be moist stratified for 4-6 weeks in the fridge before they will germinate. Do not cover the seeds. Reaching heights of 180 cm or more, the small purple to blue flowers are borne in large clusters atop the plant in late summer. Medicinally it has a tranquilizing effect and is used for nervous conditions. A little more work - but it makes a wonderful backdrop in the garden.   100 seeds.    P654.
