BROWN-EYED SUSAN:  Also called Black-Eyed Susan this short-lived perennial (3-5 years) is native to Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan, where it grows along roadsides and wastelands.  This flower has established itself in many native communities here in Alberta.  Sow outdoors in late fall or early spring.  Press seeds firmly into the soil, but do not cover. Grows best in  full sun and well-drained soils.  Blooms generally appear the first year in late summer but the plant will not reach its full size of 40-80 cm until the following season.   Blooms can appear as early as late June and continue well into August.   50 seeds.    P630
