SCABIOSA JAPONICA var. ALPINA:   Ideal for the sunny rock garden or border, this pincushion flower grows to 30 cm tall with soft purple/lavender coloured flowers appearing in June. May be a short-lived perennial (2-4) years, but will self sow each fall. Deadheading will prolong the flowering time. Full sun and soils on the dry side suit it best. (They did very well in 2002!). Seeds can be sown in late fall or early spring either in cell trays for transplanting or direct in the soil in late April. Cover the seeds with 1 cm of soil.   40 seeds.    P645
