ELECAMPANE:   An important medicinal plant, this species also makes a great background plant for the perennial garden. Growing in rich moist soil in full sun to morning shade - the plants can reach 3 m in height with large broad leaves. Yellow frilly daisy-like flowers appear on tall flower stems. Dried roots are used as cough medicine and to stimulate digestion. Flowers can be used for yellow dye. Seeds should be started in cell trays in April/May and transplanted out. A moist stratification period in the fridge may aid germination. Cover the seeds with 1 cm of soil and keep warm. Transplant into large open groups - space plants 40-50 cm apart.   60 seeds.    P564
