XANTHISMA: This little seen species hails from Texas - it is sometimes called Star-of-Texas or Sleeping Daisy. A choice specimen for the rock garden or the 'wild' flower garden, they do best in full sun and poor soils. Star-shaped bright yellow daisy-like flowers set amongst the deep green foliage. Flowers tend to close at night. Even after a hard frost the flowers keep on blooming until the snow covers the ground. Interesting for a plant that originates in such a warm climate. Seeds can be started indoors in early April or direct seeded in early May. Cover the seeds with .5 cm of soil. The earlier you start them, the earlier they bloom. Excellent cut flower. 60 seeds. A298
